Connections: Ethanol = More Hungry People?
Monday, October 01, 2007 @ 09:06:29 MDT by Bill (110 reads)
Seeing The ConnectionsThe production of ethanol is an idea that has taken strong hold in the United States. Mostly because it can be used as either the primary fuel, or as an additive to gasoline for many cars and trucks. It also reduces the contribution of carbon monoxide gas to the atmosphere, which reduces our contribution to reduction of the Ozone layer. But, is it possible that is also is causing more people to go hungry? This article is based on a story that ran in the New York Times on September 29th. It is titled 'As Prices Soar, U.S. Food Aid Buys Less'. This article takes a look at the Connections between ethanol production, and the potential to cause more people to go hungry.
Note: This article is not an attack on the Ethanol Industry, or the US AID program. It is meant to be an example of understanding the "connections" that exist between the beliefs we hold, and the decisions we make.
